There can be no knowledge without emotion, we may be aware of a truth, but until we have felt its force, it is not ours.

--- Arnold Bennette British Novelist

Use the energy, once you have removed yourself from the situation, the risk of an argument maybe over. However, you may still have upset feelings to handle. One way to do this is by channeling all that energy into doing something useful, such as exercising or cleaning your room.

Some emtion are pleasant, and some are unpleasnt, but all are good. This is because they all provide clues to how you are responding to the people and things around you. With practice, you can then use this information to steer your thoughts and actions down the best path.

angry -- treated injustly
ashamed -- haven't live up to your own standards
worried -- something bad is going to happen

Self awareness is the act of paying attention to both your emotions and your thoughts about those emotion.

You know what you are feeling, but you don't obsess about it. Instead you can tell yourself "doing what I am doing won't change anything. All it will do is make me feel worse. "

What is that distinguishes man from animal, It is something altogether new, previously unknown quality --self awareness.
--- Erich Froman

The three main parts of EI: emotions --> thoughts -->behavior

You can use your emotions to get out of this route. First, ask yourself how you are feeling right now. Worried? Guilty? Afraid of failing the class if you don't finish the report? Next, close your eyes for a few minutes and imagine yourself turning a great report tomorrow. Now, how do you feel? Proud?
Relieved? You can use this emotion energy to give yourself a pep talk.

Thoughts is deeper than all speech, feeling deeper than all thoughts
