Berkshire: Buffett Went on a Stock-Buying Spree in Q3

Warren Buffett put more of Berkshire Hathaway’s (BRKB) money into investments in the most recent quarter than at any time in at least the past 15 years. The company had $23.9 billion invested as of Sept. 30, after buying $6.9 billion worth of equities in the quarter, versus $3.6 billion in the second quarter, Bloomberg noted.
In recent quarters, Buffett has expanded his stock portfolio to include new names like MasterCard (MA) and Dollar General (DG)
Besides equities, Berkshire’s other investments included its $9 billion acquisition of Lubrizol and its $5 billion investment in Bank of America’s (BAC) preferred shares.
Berkshire put much of that money to work on Aug. 8, the first trading day after Standard & Poor’s lowered the U.S. credit rating from AAA. In fact, the firm plowed more into equities on that day than on any other day this year, Buffett told Charlie Rose in an interview.
Be greedy when others are fearful, indeed.
