Hi veronica,
May I inquire (a) WHERE is this teaching opportunity. "Great
China" perhaps refers to HeiLongJiang, or YunNan, or XiZang, or who
knows where??? I don't think it is improper to write "Great China",
though some native speakers will misunderstand your meaning. If I
wrote "Great USA", what would that suggest to you? For many native
speakers, "Great USA" sounds quite fervent, or religious, or
excessively patriotic. I suspect that you intend to describe the
central part of China, i.e. the area around ChangJiang, for example
ChongQing, or WuHan, perhaps as far west as ChengDu, or as far East
as NanJing. It would be more convenient to specify the city or
province or region (central China, or Yangze river valley, rather
than "Great" China.) (b) WHAT (if I may be so impolite) is your name
in PinYin?? (c) Is this a university position, or a private school?
(d) teaching children or adults? (e)Are the "Western style"
accommodations shared or private? By the way, Chinese people also
live in "Western Style" accommodations. A better description of the
accommodations might be this: Two bedroom shared apartment, or
efficiency apartment (unshared), with one (two) bathroom(s),
microwave, telephone, dial-up (or broad band!!) unlimited, free
internet access, and entertainment center including DVD player, fully
furnished, and CLEAN. There is no need to write "Western style",
because it is understood by nearly all foreigners that China is a
modern country, with some areas still in development, hence an uneven
balance of amenities, with rural areas rapidly improving but still
lagging the coastal regions. Hope these comments of mine were
helpful to you. If I am offered a position at your institution, I
hope you can profit from my course in writing!!! I am interested in
learning the answers to these questions, just as you are interested
to read the answers to your questions about my competency to offer
