Job Description

Our Firm has been retained to find a Country General Manager (CGM) for the newly founded China division of the world leader in the design and manufacture of custom control room solutions for mission critical and other technology-intensive environments. This privately-held company is headquartered in Canada. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, successful general manager with a strong track record of executive leadership in the A/V, control room or integration industries to advance his career.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The CGM reports to the CEO of the corporation (based in Canada) and is responsible for providing business leadership to drive the rapid growth of the company’s business in Asia. He will have P & L responsibilities for all manufacturing and commercial activities for the newly formed organization with a mandate to grow very rapidly in China. The position’s chief responsibilities are to plan and execute the division’s growth through meeting customer needs by optimizing people development and retention, plant quality and output, sales, and product development. Direct reports initially include the sales organization (3 direct reports) and an expatriate Plant General Manager. Currently accounting is contracted but a CFO will be a potential future report. The overall organization is expected to grow over the next 18-24 months to approximately 100 employees. This position will interface closely with Canadian marketing, research and development and customer service professionals as well as identified major strategic partners and alliance members.
Skills

Ideal candidate is a successful general management executive with both strong tactical and strategic skill sets in China, ideally in the A/V, control room or integration industries.

Must haves:
• Excellent Mandarin and English language skills
• Undergraduate engineering or architecture degree and an MBA preferred
• Experience
a. A minimum of 4 – 10 years experience in the PRC leading a western invested business unit or company on a P& L basis
b. Proven skills and experience in rapidly setting up and growing B to B businesses
c. Experience in developing new sales channels and building a sales force in the industrial arena
d. Solid domain knowledge in complex A/V, control room and/or integration industries
e. Functional knowledge in manufacturing, quality systems, procurement, logistics, finance and human resources


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
a. Knowledge of business practices in the Peoples Republic of China and other Asian countries
b. Self confident team player with excellent leadership and multi-cultural skills
c. Effective working with general-contractors, architects, Information Technology client/partners, and government authorities
d. Strong people management skills, record of job stability and promotion and upward potential
e. Strong customer interface skills and experience with custom and new product development
f. Strong written and oral communication capabilities and presentation skills
g. Strong multi-tasking, prioritizing skills.
h. High integrity and honesty, project management capabilities, outgoing personality, positive “can do” attitude, computer literate
