Record Breaking Crowds Attend CES
1/10/2005 8:38:00 AM
Las Vegas – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) reported that the 2005 International CES, which ended yesterday, set several major show records including number of attendees, 142,585, which is subject to an independent audit.
That initial attendance figure is substantially higher than the 132,000 which attended the 2004 show. CEA also reports that there were 2,550 exhibitors, exhibit space of 1.531 million net square feet and international attendance was 23,028 (up from 18,000 last year), all CES records.
The popularity of International CES this year was a reflection of the acceptance of the digital technology revolution, according to CEA. The show floor was packed with executives from the consumer technology, broadcasting, cable, motion picture and numerous other industries who viewed a showcase of new products and trends in audio, accessories, home networking, mobile electronics, video and wireless.
“The 2005 International CES succeeded by every measure,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, the producer of the International CES. “The consumer technology industry is in the midst of a rapid shift to digital,” noted Shapiro. “As a result, we are seeing numerous exciting product introductions. The International CES reflects this digital revolution.”
“This year’s show seemed to feature more new product announcements and developments than any previous show, cementing the International CES as the global launching pad for new technologies,” said Karen Chupka, CEA’s vice president, events and conferences. “Our exhibitors are able to leverage the tremendous media coverage and marketing opportunities that surround the show.”
Attendees braved the coldest, wettest Las Vegas weather in years, slogging through some rain and one snow squall on the Strip last week. But there was a minimum of problems yesterday flying out of the city’s McCarran International Airport, unlike last year where there were massive delays of all types, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The 2006 International CES will be held Jan. 5-8, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nev..
