That's what I found out when I recently checked my bank account.
Yes I had to pay a $1780/month mortgage in the States, but I was living in a new 4 bedroom house with a nice yard, and a good size toy room for my daughter and 3 car garage. Here I only pay RMB 2500/month for rent, but it's a small 2 bedroom apt with barely any furniture. I spent on average $120 on my car in the States (about $60 insurance and $60 gas), but in China I spent about 1500 RMB a month on taxi. Yes food is much cheaper, but trust me, I spend more here than in the states (because I eat in restaurents).
Just found that in the last 3 months I spent over 90k RMB (not including child support). And let me tell you -- I am NOT a big spender. If I take out approximately 15k on Chinese New Year, and 20k on a tigital TV, I still spent about 20k a month! I did not spend that much in the US.
Now you see the numbers, those of you who imagined that you would be able to live on a lot less in China, should be wary of what you are getting into.
