You are right. You can not control when you are treated and who is infront of you, but you can observe if the dentist changes the probe. If he did not , you would have to ask. All the other tools are generally in sealed parcel, which is sterile. You do not have to worry about that. From the dentists I have seen in US, they handle these very prfessional.
You do not have to worry too much.
Easy up! the chance of getting infected from a dentist is much lower than running into an airplane crash.
I do worry a lot about HBV infection when I visit china. People do not really pay any attention for separation of food when they eat. I will wirte an article for this when I have time.
