POSITION DESCRIPTION STATEMENT
(PDS)
TITLE: Director of Project Management, Platform Projects
REPORTS TO: VP, Platform Projects
Purpose of Position
Plan, execute, and finalize platform projects related to product design and manufacturing in our Asia facilities. Ensure on time delivery of new products from Asia which meet quality and performance requirements. Manage and coordinate the efforts of team members in both the US and China in order to deliver projects according to plan and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
• Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
• Drive division profitability through effective project execution.
• Develop project timelines and budgets with assigned manufacturing and product design resources.
• Identify and resolve conflicts and issues as they arise. Drive excellence through continuous improvement efforts.
• Develop and deliver progress reports and status updates on a continual basis.
• Proactively manage changes in the project scope, identify potential crises and develop contingency plans.
• Coach, mentor and motivate project team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
• Develop relationships and maintain effective communication with departments throughout the business in order to ensure the success of the project. Work closely with internal operations teams including product and process design engineers.
Relationships
• Report to Vice President, Platform Projects
• Manage a team of project team members located in both the US and China
Background and Skill
• Must have at least 10 years of Project Management experience including 3 years of R&D experience
• Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience managing direct reports
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar area of study
• Must have both Product Design and Engineering experience
• Requires demonstrated project management experience including specific experience with consumer products and production in China
• Must have strong communication skills
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Project
• Fluent in Mandarin Chinese preferred
• 25% Travel Required
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, position requires availability for weekly conference calls at night (approximately 4 to 6 hours per week)
