Job Description
Title: Director – Head of Software Development
Department: Asia systems
Reports to: Head of Business Solutions, Asia Pacific
Location: Dalian, China
Purpose of your role
The role takes overall responsibly for the delivery of Dalian ba<x>sed Software Development projects for FIL Asia, reporting to the Head of Business Solutions for Asia Pacific. Through the leadership of our Delivery Project Management team, the candidate will take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring that managers and teams lead them throughout the project lifecycle. Additionally the candidate will manage prioritisation and high-level resource assignment between groups; analyse and present on both current activities and future direction; be actively involved in the hiring of key roles and be expected to coach and mentor various team members on management, leadership and technical aspects of project delivery.
The candidate is expected to display professional ethics in his/her approach to work and exhibit a high level leadership within a dynamic working environment. The role demands an expert leader who has in depth knowledge of the latest key tools and technologies, a commitment to innovation, automation, and doing the right thing
Your key accountabilities
• Lead a team of project managers covering different Software delivery activities
• Carry out resource planning to ensure the right number of people with the relvant skills are in place to achieve a high quality of project delivery
• Ensure mobility of resource between teams to maximise efficiency, elicit knowledge transfer to develop and grow local talent
• Function as a technical thought leader, interpret and influence strategy and ob<x>jectives
• Plan future work expansion and possible work transitions from other parts of Fidelity
• Ensure a schedule of project review updates is in place to manage expectations and information needs of stakeholders
• Coach direct reports and team leaders to aid their development; Maintain close supervision of staff attrition levels, anticipate and identify short-falls, work to retain quality staff
• Identify training needs in the project groups and work with Human Resources to deliver technical training in a practical and cost effective way
• Communicate as a member of the leadership team to keep staff updated on business developments and changes, to embed the Fidelity culture and values and ensure that staff feel part of the wider Fidelity organisation
• Ensure that the Fidelity standard methodologies are applied in all projects, and improve the productivity and quality of system development by promoting high standards and best practices
• Act as role model to the team – lead by example
Your skills and experience
Essential skills
• Bachelor degree or above; 12 + years of experience
• Understanding and knowledge of the China IT industry
• Demonstrable experience in managing other managers, of leading teams and managing software delivery projects
• Information Technology background with experience of software and databa<x>se languages
• Strong decision making and strategic planning skills
• Ability to communicate effectively both in person, and remotely with customers and colleagues around the world
• Energy, tenacity and strong focus on delivery and results
• Able to operate effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Ability to anticipate requirements, obstacles, and have plans ready to address them.
• High degree of responsiveness with quick turn around, follow-up and a focus on exceeding expectations.
• Strong written & spoken Mandarin and English language skills
Desirable skills
• Financial industry experience
• Previous management experience in China
• Experience of IT off-shoring/outsourcing models
• Experience of web-ba<x>sed delivery projects
