Job Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
ExxonMobil Asia Pacific R&D Co. is seeking candidates for a Research Scientist in the field of Microscopy and Surface Science analysis, located in Shanghai, China. The successful candidate for this position will become part of the Advanced Characterization Department (ACD) within the company's Chemical Research organization. ACD is a global team with state of the art characterization capabilities around the world. The key responsibilities of the position include managing day-to-day operations of the Laboratory, maintaining high safety and data quality standards through application of analytical skills, knowledge of materials and expertise in Microscopy and Surface Science.
Primary Job Functions:
• Maintain and facilitate all aspects of the daily operations of the microscopy laboratory including the operation of optical microscopes, a state-of-the art scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer and an atomic force microscope (AFM).
• Oversee all safety / health / environmental requirements and ensure compliance. Ensure that all data produced in the lab is in adherence with ExxonMobil Quality requirements.
• Interface with ExxonMobil research program leaders, business unit contacts and participate in research programs to provide characterization support.
• Actively promote / explore / champion new Microscopy and Surface Science analysis techniques focused on polymers characterization.
• Develop / assess / validate new methodologies for polymer characterization and problem solving.
• Provide technical support in specialized area of research.
• Develop strong contacts with academia and professional societies.
Requirements of Candidates:
Job Requirements:
• A PhD in physics, materials science or chemistry.
• Experience in using the microscopes listed above or similar microscopes.
• Chinese citizenship.
• Strong communication, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Fluency in English
• The ability to work in a dynamic, multicultural and team environment
• Some domestic and international travel possible
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Strong background in Materials Science and Engineering
• Experience with polymers
• Ability to use and develop software to analyze data for image analysis and EDS
• Demonstrated analytical problem solving
