[The Dow opened the day down more than 150 points, and continued to plummet. Support was finally found around 11,000, as seen in the 5 and 15 minute charts. A solid bounce off this level started a quick rally and breifly carried the Dow into positive territory. But the bears returned in the final hour, setting off another selloff. Overall the Dow finished the day down 128 points, ending a volatile week.
Until today, the Dow had been range-bound since the beginning of the month, as seen in the 60 Minute Chart. Overall the technicals continue look weak for the Dow. On the other hand, the breakout today, lacked strong conviction, which opens the possibility of more price movement around the 11,150 level. If a downward bounce off this level occurs, the index should move significantly lower. If the Dow manages to make it back to close above 11,150 next week, more range movement.should follow. Watch 11,000 short and 11,450 long in the week ahead.
Short Term Dow
Intraday, the Dow had a volatile session. Tracing out a total of more than 600 points in the session gave way to some nice intraday moves today. Watch price action around 11,150 next week, for more opportunities to take advantage of this volatility.
NASDAQ & S&P
The NASDAQ and S&P have been building out descending channel patterns. Particularly troubling is the NASDAQ's expanding range which signals tremendous weakness in the weeks ahead.
