You seem to be on the traditional and conservative side. Before discussing any guidelines, one has to know what he wants to achieve: To fit in, to lead or to make a statement. Let's discuss fitting in. The standard dressing code is definitely based on industry and geographical location. Black or nothing nowdays is only suitable for traditional industries or backwater colony conuntries;-) The easy way is to observe in your daily interactions and industry gatherings how successful people (not superstars) dress and then follow them. In silicon valley, very few people wear black. Same can be said in LA. Wearing class ring is widely practiced. So as signatured cuff link. Lady first is a good guideline. So is the clean hygiene. When in a hurry, use some gel and aftershave:)
