Job Title: Research Scientist
Reports To: Research Coordinator, North Eastern Asia
Location: Tieling, Liaoning, China – Spring corn research center
Job Purpose:
This position will be responsible for conducting a comprehensive research project aimed at developing inbreds that contribute to China spring corn commercial hybrids.
Duties / Responsibilities:
1. Initiate research and provide technical advice and mentoring on new approaches and methodology to applied product development.
2. Directly responsible for an Inbred Development program that contributes to China spring corn commercial hybrids with the focus on combining of resistance genes to both Northern leaf bright and headsmut into Pioneer elite temperate inbreds.
3. Works in conjunction with other scientists establishing project goals consistent with business unit goals that reflect internal and external customer needs.
4. Incorporate newly emerging technologies into the inbred and germplasm development process.
5. Remains current on new technology by participating in professional meetings, career development activities and by encouraging others to bring information into research activities.
6. Implements and monitors safe working practices.
Education Qualification Desired:
Ph.D. in quantitative biological sciences with research experience in molecular and quantitative genetics.
Competencies and Experience Desired:
Experience in molecular, population and statistical genetics in an applied breeding program. Experience in maize improvement is preferred. Strong communication skills in spoken and written Chinese and English, and a proven ability to work well with a wide range of scientific and people interactions. Demonstrated leadership and success in a wide range of scientific and personnel interactions are required.
Job Title: Senior Research Associate
Report to: Research Coordinator- North Eastern Asia
Location: Tieling, Liaoning, China – Spring corn research center
Job Purpose:
This position supports PDCC research activities in China by assisting in planning and effectively conducting experiments; recording and analyzing data; Involved in data sharing with Pioneer product delivery team, and counterparts of Pioneer JV and the partners
Duty/Responsibility
1. Take leadership in the trial quality control for China yield trials through (1) identifying the qualified cooperators and suitable lands, (2) training and coaching the cooperators, (3) setting up the standards for yield trial operation and implementation of it.
2. Takes the leadership on the study of the climate types in China major corn markets and its application in corn breeding
3. Takes leadership in corn planting by hand or by planter for all trials in spring corn area
4. Manage yield trial in spring corn area
5. Takes leadership in corn harvesting using Pioneer harvesting system in spring corn area
6. Involved in planning, hiring and supervising part-time employees for Tieling research farm as needed in safe and efficient manner.
7. Involved in data entering, analysis and maintenance
8. Maybe requested to supervise facility and equipment maintenance in Tieling farm
Other Duties
1. Assist research manager for data sharing with Pioneer product delivery team, and counterparts of Pioneer JV and the partners
2. May be Involved in external cooperation on joint hybrid development project
