Gov bonds(esp., short-maturity ones) (not junk bonds, not CDOs, commercial papers) benefit directly from central bank rate cut and has the best liquidity.
In the long run, I will not want to hold Uncle Sam's gov bonds. Gov bonds of Germany, Australia, Switzerland are three better options.
Pimco has jettison corporate bonds and MBS since late 2005 and early 2006. Very smart people work there.
