that is a very cool name. silicon valley is a great place for techies but it is definitely not the best place to get rich. if you really want to get rich, remember follow the money. where has all the money, you ask? yeap, the big apple. google's ipo made more than 100 millionares, hooyah to them. but hundreds of newly promoted patners and senior vps at investment banks are getting 7-figure compensation, hell, on an annual basis. you still have not counted those guys working for hedge funds and venture capital firms. if you are not familiar with hedge funds,they are sort of like vcs but charges a lower management fee. better yet, unlike Ib or consulting or google, it does not need to hire more people if there is more business(money being managed). A five-person team can just manage a 500 million portfolio as easily as a 50million. the difference is 1% of management fee out of 500M is a cool 5 mil. That is just management fee. Typically, hedge fund management takes a 20% of net return(return - managment fee). Say this 500M hedge fund has a 15% return(very average), roughtly the management will get 20% of 15% which 3% out of total portolio. That is another 15M. in one year, this 5-person company generated a 20M in revenue. Let me know if you have a company in silicon valley can pull out similar numbers. o.k. you may ask but how many 500M hedge funds are out there? a lot. some of funds are so big that it is ridiculous. billions of dollars are managed by fewer than 30 people.
Anyway, don't be so naive thinking silicon valley is the God-blessed sole place for humans to make a quick buck.
