many chinese entities (academic and industrial research) always dream of establish a "national standard" so that they could be the one to get the manufacturers to pay them for their R & D...just as the forums successfully done by many international players outside china
it so far has not been noticeably successful by many, if any, chinese enterprises, even those with top gov. agency sponsors.
self interests serving evolves to the point gettting int he way of most others, would in turn kill their own business.
for industrial forums to work, needs to have as many major industrial players involved as possible
so good luck to the new effort on HD DVD china only format
as for consumer, what is the point? when we have compatible format, many can continue enjoying the free or low costs high quality A/V products. is this entity trying to protect the best interests of hollywood? then get those ass to pay for it!
of course the same industry could always find their sources for A/V contents to replicate at industrial level, and hopefully the chinese hardware industry could enjoy an entry barrier for outsiders...(which i doubt)
but in general i feel this si another day dream deal, just get the chinese gov to set a fund so someone get fatter up front
and never really will surface at the same front again...
question: are you talking about HD or HD DVD format. china already has HD format as i thought
