they would like it if there is something entertaining and pleasant to the eyes.
Most people would be proud to admit he/she is a descendent of Ghengis khan. To most Chinese, being descendent of Ghengis Khan means being the same race as him. It means the Chinese race hasn’t always been a victim which was the case through out the contemporary history, the Chinese race also has some power to not being slaughtered, it could be a soothing factor to some Chinese.
All people want to feel noble about themselves. A bit extreme: there are KKK members who are proud just because they are white. Their ancestors' tribe (ancestry country) may very well be slaughtered many times by ancestors of their peers who are from the same local group. But, they belong to the same group “white” now, this “white” group could bring them whatever they hope that can bring them including some "upper class" feeling.
Japanese slaughters are too close to people in time line. It is an INSTANT HISTORY. They are still in the concurrent mode. People will probably forget about it.
