I’m a long time listener, but first time caller, as I just saw this great article, and had some rudimentary thoughts below. Your thoughts/bricks would be greatly appreciated.
First, this is an excellent article with in-depth analysis that demonstrated how devastating the so-called SOE reforms have done to some of CHina's best SOE's. We should appreciate author's efforts as well as courage.
Secondly, selling these great SOEs at such a discount for foreign PE and knowing that Caryle will sell XuGong to Cat in 3 years, by no means benefits this country or its people and only benefit, along side Caryle, those decision makers, who definitely are taking bribes, in the forms we don't know. For these people, we should bring them to the justice, sooner or later--they can get around today, maybe tomorrow, but not forever. I believe that most people can still see the truth, and will do whatever we can to correct the wrong when we have the power.
Thirdly, the government should reconsider the role of the "GuoZhiWei" and the local governments, which are usually a bunch of corrupted idiots having no knowledge/expertise whatsoever to make an intelligent investment decision. More importantly, their consciences are already, using an old Chinese saying, eaten by dogs.
So, what we should do? Or what we could do? Raise the questions like the author? educate the people about these issues? and do whatever we could to form a force in change this wrong course?
That would a firm Yes, at least for me.
